This blog is in many ways a personal journey; I’m sharing pieces of my collection and expressing how I feel about the music and the packaging it comes in. It’s about the object. I’ll throw in some interesting facts that I may or may not have cobbled together quickly… but giving a history lesson isn’t my primary objective.

I’ve called the blog ‘New Wave and Beyond.’ It just came to me as I was playing around with a possible logo, no great thought was put into it. But it’s a perfect name since it allows me to express what I feel to be new wave, from the beginning up to present day. It also lets me explore what exactly ‘new wave’ is anyway. There’s no shortage of opinions on the matter and I have my own strong thoughts as to what the genre is. I’ll explain my thesis in a post soon; let’s just say that every object and entry is an expression of my definition. So the obvious performers like Devo, Blondie, and Talking Heads will be here. Also pre-1980 punk bands. And post-New Wave groups like Fuzzbox, Primitives, and yes The Dum Dum Girls. Do I have a valid thesis… or am I just attempting to shoe-horn groups I like into the genre? Well that’s a major theme of this blog as well…
